Claire Wade, a person with ME from the UK, developed the idea of virtual holidays when she found she wasn't well enough to accompany her family on a holiday. By surrounding herself with pictures, objects and cooking the food from her desired region, she was able to experience the sights and tastes of another culture.

Claire sells a specially written book for a number of destinations which allow the reader to feel like they are travelling but without leaving the comfort of their own home. It’s a multi-sensory, descriptive experience which stimulates the imagination to help the person “virtually” visit the places described. Using the internet can help to enhance the holiday but it’s not an obligatory requirement.
