From Friday 14th of November to Sunday 16th of November ME/CFS Australia (Victoria) attended the annual General Practitioners Conference and Exhibition (GPCE) at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The GPCE provides health care professionals with face-to-face learning opportunities to assist them obtain their medical education and accreditation whilst learning from and networking with Australia’s leading health care educators and suppliers.
Representatives from the Society talked with over one hundred health practitioners about ME/CFS; we were able to provide information and research to those unfamiliar, and offer support and resources to those that regularly encounter sufferers.
On the Saturday, Doctors Don Lewis and Nicole Phillips presented a 'Meet the Expert' session for the GPs, Practice Nurses and Medical Practice Managers in attendance on 'ME/CFS: What it is and what it is not'. The presentation outlined definition criteria for CFS including the Canadian Clinical Criteria, and symptom analysis. The session was the most well-attended of the day, the busiest of the Conference.
The Society would like to thank the volunteers who helped out across the weekend, and Reed Medical Exhibitions for providing us with the opportunity to attend.
